Critter Gifting
A community of gift-giving critters from the Critical Role fandom
Way back in the distance past, before the pandemic, before Critical Role was quite so enormous as it is today, I was hanging out in the CR facebook fan group, and someone said, “Man it would be cool if we could do a Critmas gift exchange!” and I, in all my wisdom, thought, “How hard can that be?”
And so I ran one. Just me and a spreadsheet and a lot of hours dealing with emails. That first exchange, in 2017, had 515 participants. At the time, it was the biggest exchange I’d ever run. The following year I pulled in some people to help me with it. By 2020, we had about 1600 participants, including the CR cast themselves.
Then the pandemic hit. International postage became more difficult. CR became bigger, and had to step away.
But my team of elves and moderators still keep this going. We now have a website, with over 800 participants. The love keeps flowing, and the gifts keep happening. It’s a beautiful thing.
